Rumor: Who Wants a Pro Bowl Return Man? by Barry McBride of theOBR.com, October 16, 2009 at 11:51am ET
Josh Cribbs Profile
Rumors are omnipresent this morning that a number of clubs have contacted the Cleveland Browns about Pro Bowl Kick Return man Josh Cribbs, a one-time undrafted free agent who has emerged in recent years as one of the league's most dangerous return men.
Reports from local Cleveland newspapers claim two teams have contacted the Browns about Cribbs, while NFL.com blogger Jason La Canfora claims that the number is six. Regardless of which number you believe, teams are inquiring about the explosive return man, primarily because they believe that Cribbs' contract issues with Cleveland might make him available.
As the Orange and Brown Report's John Taylor reported yesterday, however, phone calls to Cleveland don't neccessarily mean the Browns are willing to deal Cribbs. The one-time Kent State quarterback remains one of the few Browns who can put points on the board, and is currently playing on a very cap-friendly contract. Cribbs has failed to establish himself as a receiver thus far, making it more challenging for the team to establish what fair market value for the returner might be.
Cribbs' agent is trying to ratchet up pressure for a new deal by talking to local controversy-seeking reporters and sending out the occasional tweet. Such tactics have been, thus far, fruitless in gaining either a new deal or new uniform for his client.
