Alabama interviewing DB coach candidates

Jeremy Pruitt

With defensive backs coach Jeremy Pruitt reportedly expected to become Florida State's defensive coordinator, Alabama is already interviewing candidates to replace him.

Alabama is already working on a replacement for defensive backs coach Jeremy Pruitt, who is reportedly leaving the program to become the new defensive coordinator at Florida State.

Tennessee's safeties coach Josh Conklin and cornerbacks coach Derrick Ansley, and Utah State's Bill Busch have been approached by Alabama, with Conklin and Busch having already interviewed this week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Though neither Alabama nor Florida State has made an official announcement regarding Pruitt, multiple sources close to the program confirmed that this will happen.

Conklin and Ansley just finished up their first season at UT. Tennessee struggled in many aspects of the game this year and ended up firing head coach Derek Dooley in November. The Volunteers' defense finished last in almost every defensive statistical category in the SEC.

Ansley should be a familiar name to Crimson Tide fans as he was an Alabama assistant from 2010-11.

Busch, who has spent the past four seasons at Utah State, helped the Aggies' defense finish No. 1 in the WAC in all major statistical categories this year. USU also finished the season ranked 15th nationally in total defense. Over the weekend, the Aggies beat Toledo 41-15 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and in its aftermath, head coach Gary Andersen has reportedly been linked as the man who will replace Bret Bielema at Wisconsin.

Pruitt, who was at Alabama's practice on Tuesday, but not on Wednesday—for personal reasons, reporters were told—is expected to coach in the national championship game on Jan. 7.

In his three seasons at Alabama, Pruitt mainly coached the safeties and was known as one of Nick Saban's top recruiters.
